Reasons For Burial

There are plenty of reasons not to just leave a dead body…. sitting there, once a person has died. For one thing, there’s the decomposition process, which involves a great deal of unpleasantness. Almost as soon as the person dies, all natural muscles and hold they have on bowels, and urine cease to be constricted. Also, later, when the body begins to decompose, it also emits gases and other odours because of natural bacterial decomposition. Burial, along with a few other preliminary practices before interment, make it possible for friends, and relatives of the deceased to make their last farewells, or… depending on the relationship they had with the person, they can issue a last stream of profanity.

Actually, one interesting fact in particular, is that there are no actual health requirements pertaining to the burial of a corpse. Except in the instance that it died with an infectious disease, which seems a bit on the idiotic side, considering that there’s still a major risk of contamination through possible future disinterring, or bacteria seeping into the ground. Aside from for safety, and health reasons, there are plenty of reasons why most people prefer to bury (or cremate) their dead, –usually to pay respect, or courtesy to the deceased after their passing. In the majority of cultures, some form of respect is due to the physical remains of the body, is the majority of, –but not all, cultures consider inappropriate to allow rodents and scavenger animals to eat it.

Interment is also a way for the loved ones of the deceased to say good bye, and a form of closure. By burying the body in an elaborate ceremony, –funeral, –they are also lessening their pain of losing the person, by removing the body from view. Out of sight, out of mind. The majority of cultures also believe in some kind of afterlife, and a funeral ceremony, including burial or interment, is usually part of the deceased ’s journey into his or her new life. Also, most religions also have specific instructions for the way the dead should be handled, such as funeral customs, ceremonies, etc.
